Governor Mamba: Well sa tingin ko, nag-eenjoy sila. Nagsusweldo sila wala silang ginagawa (laughter). Kaya nga dapat huwag na silang magreklamo dahil sa totoo lang po no, I think meron tayong law, matatanggalan naman ng konti, dahil sa totoo lang, madami naman tayong nasesave sa work from home. Parang lugi po ‘yung gobyerno e, na nagsusuweldo ng tama. Lahat ng perks nandoon, and yet hindi narereciprocate sa work.

Teachers reactions:

“Grabe naman po kayo gov. mamba para sabihin na masya kami dahil wala kaming ginagawa… try nio po kaya magpunta sa mga skulnpara makita nio mga ginagawa namin… wag nio po sabihin na sayang ang pera ng gobyerno sa mga sahod namin gov…”

The New Normal Education

It is clear that conventional schooling methods have been affected by the present pandemic and anxiety for a possible second epidemic, but the rationale for establishing the modern paradigm could go beyond the present pandemic and dig further than fear of disease.

Reimagining new models of education can open the door for all young Indonesians to a more equal standard of education. The pandemic disturbance has increased awareness of new opportunities to restart our education system and to bring young Indonesians into the future on a more level playing field, amid all the COVID-19 diseases.

The school interruption prompted all education partners to agree that what matters is not the fulfillment of the written curriculum coverage, but the identification of the different needs of students and the exploration of strategies by means other than the teachers themselves to address those needs.

The key role of teachers is now to direct students to look for those possibilities. It is hoped that this new model would enable school authorities to create a viable structure for a curriculum focused on needs and to include a repertoire of learning modules. This program can include various forms of literacy and modalities needed to thrive and adapt to the 21st century. The how is a topic of technicality with a refreshed appreciation of the when, who and what of education.
