Several senators are pushing to lift the teachers’ cash allowance or the so-called “chalk allowance” from P3,500 to P10,000, which seeks to provide them with financial help during this pandemic period.
While other senate bills suggested an increase from P3,500 to P5,000, Senator Recto urged that P10,000 be rationally raised.
“Kung ang sundalo binibigyan natin ng bala pag nasa gyera, teaching supply allowance ang bala ng mga guro natin. Malaki ang gastos ng mga guro natin today during the pandemic,” Recto said.
Senator Bong Revilla agreed with Recto ‘s proposal that the raise of P1,500 to the said allowance is not important given the costs they owe, including internet subscriptions.
“We will obey the bill of Senator Recto na gawin nating P10,000, kung tutuusin po natin maliit po ‘yung dagdag na P1,500, kung pupuwede lamang po, but it will cost a lot,” Revilla said.
Revilla said, “Parang additional assistance to teachers itong gagawin natin.”
These suggestions were also agreed to by Senator Win Gatchalian.
